Výběr těchto srovnávaných zemí byl ovlivněn geografickou polohou a podobnou výchozí ekonomickou a politickou situací. Vnější ekonomická rovnováha je posuzována na základě vybraných ekonomických indikátorů, kterými je běžný účet platební bilance, bilance výnosů, přímé zahraniční investice a zahraniční zadluženost.
