dc.description.abstract-en | Entry into the euro area would derive not only from the fulfilling of Maastricht criteria, which are official conditions
of entry into this grouping. The Optimum Currency Area theory is the theoretical basis for examination of
the monetary integration. Criteria of the Optimum Currency area theory can be used for analyzing of the country's
suitability for membership in a monetary union. The paper deals with three basic criteria of the theory:
mobility of production factors, openness of the economy and diversification of production with application to the
Slovak economy. I focus also on the business cycles synchronization and the similarity of the shocks with the euro
area. The aim of the paper is to determine the level of the fulfilment of these criteria in Slovakia and to assess
whether Slovakia has been the good candidate to join the euro area based on these criteria. | cs |
