Abstract

This thesis deals with the influence of the cutting method and machining on the deformation behavior of cut (machined) solids. In general, the surface and subsurface layers of material are affected during cutting and machining. It is mainly due to the heat input of thermal cutting to the cut position. Cutting tool deforms the work-piece surface during mechanical machining methods and mechanical work involved in the creation of chips is converted into heat. This work aim is to verify if changes in deformation behavior of such cut and machined materials can be caused by various cutting and machining methods. Series of tensile tests followed by metallographic analysis and SEM evaluation of fracture surfaces have been carried out. Micro-hardness and instrumented hardness tests have also been performed.
