Abstract

In my bachelor thesis I consider history of gold as a commodity ideal for monetary purposes. For its unique properties, gold soon became a barter commodity medium and has been part of monetary and business development ever since. I divided history of monetary gold into two parts. The first one follows substantial part of human history from antiquity period to 19th century, in the second part I describe how gold became inherent part of monetary systems and the origins of the gold standard, where I consider its positive and negative influences in economies of the time. Finally I mention the end of the Bretton Woods system. The practical part demonstrates the subject in the form of newspaper articles while using variety of journalistic genres.
