Abstract

The aim of this diploma work is to verify the possibility of the biodegradation of persistent organic pollutants in sediments from Drahonice prison sewage treatment plants. A sample of sediments from the water was collected and polycyclic analytes of aromatic hydrocarbons, polychlorinated biphenyl congeners and the total amount of extractable non-polar substances were analysed. The bacterial cultures of Rhodococcus sp. and Pseudomonas putida were used to biodegradation process. Laboratory experiment lasted 4 weeks, the observed concentration of each pollutants were compared with the notice 294/2005 Sb., the conditions about the waste dumping and use on the ground surface, particularly with the limit values stated in supplement No. 1.
