Abstract
The aim of this bachelor thesis is, in the first instance, to make a theoretical outline of the functioning of the common trade policy and development policy of the European Union and then to apply these knowledge to the particular case of the ACP states. The main goal is to focus on and zoom in the formation, origins and the historical evolution of the business relations between the European Union and African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States and to deeply analyse their bilateral trade.
The thesis is divided into the five chapters. The first chapter, an introduction, is followed by the second chapter dealing with the general characteristics of the European Union and its common trade policy. It focuses on the origins, instruments and legal and institutional bases of this policy. The third chapter provides the definition of the term “developing country” as well as the division of these countries according to several criteria and approaches. It is also centred on the EU’s development policy and the EU’s co-operation and assistance in the development. Using the example of ACP states, the fourth chapter concretizes the approach of the EU to developing countries. The last chapter represents the conclusion of the thesis.
