Abstract

This graduation thesis on the topic “Numerical modelling of steel ingots solidification” describes problems of casting and solidification of steel ingots and optimization of this technology, based on a prediction of casting and solidification conditions using a numerical simulation. The theoretical part of the thesis is devoted to the description of steel ingots production and their defects. Attention is also focused on the description of numerical simulation principle using commercial software. The following analysis of current world knowledge from the research field of the numerical simulation of steel ingots casting is mentioned. The experimental part describes the simulation of casting and solidification of 1.9 tons of steel ingot using a commercial software ProCAST and devotest a subsequent evaluation of ProCAST postprocessing option sand compares the size of the central defect of ingots in dependence on the change of boundary conditions. Using of numerical simulation, the graphical results of casting velocity, progress of solidified fraction during casting and solidification, sizes of heat flux, changes of temperature and sizes of central shrinkage and porosity were obtained.
