Abstract

This thesis focuses on abandoned mine workings and mining waste in the Ore Mountains, where historical mining has significantly shaped the present-day landscape. It provides a brief overview of the legislative framework relevant to mining waste, but the core of the work lies in technical and environmental approaches to remediation and stabilization. The thesis summarizes both traditional and modern mineral processing methods and evaluates their applicability to historical waste deposits. The practical part is based on an original study of four sites in the Ore Mountains, including sampling, analysis of metal concentrations, and assessment of material properties. The results show that some sites have potential for further material use, while others require priority remediation measures. The work integrates geological interpretation, mineral processing and environmental engineering to assess the current state and future possibilities for handling mining waste in this region.
