Abstract

The content of this thesis describes the sealing effect of grouting as part of the tunneling cycle of the Scandinavian tunneling method named Drill & Blast. The introduction presents some key tunneling projects in Scandinavia where pre-grouting was applied. The theoretical part is focused on description of cement-based grout spread theories in hard rock environment as well as the grout properties which directly impact the grout spread. Next chapter introduces the methodology which was used to verify the sealing effect of the grouting and the grout properties. The conclusion summarizes and evaluates the results of all executed tests and also mentions technologies which are currently being developed to improve the grouting performance.
