Abstract
The Schengen Cooperation in the Context of Migration Crisis
The Schengen cooperation is mainly the cooperation between the European Union countries under the so-called Schengen Area. Internal borders are not covered by any controls.
The main goal of the bachelor thesis is to characterize and evaluate the functioning of the Schengen cooperation with regard to the current issue of the migration crisis. As a result of the migration crisis, controls are being reintroduced at national borders. The Schengen cooperation is threatened by this arrangement and may be suspended.
The thesis contains detailed information about the total number of refugees in individual years, the number of illegal migration and asylum seekers. Most migrants come from the Near and Middle East, including the states of North Africa. The main reasons are political unrest, economic situation, religious conflicts and terrorist attacks.
