Abstract

The main aim of the thesis is The EU Energy Cooperation with Russia. The mutual cooperation is of the highest importance for both the EU and Russia, as the EU is dependent on Russian energy sources and Russia needs the finance from selling its resources to the EU. The aim of the thesis is to demonstrate level of dependency of EU and Russia, eventually to ascertain whether the EU is more dependent on Russia or vice versa, or if it is an equal partnership. Moreover, the second aim of this thesis is to characterise Russian energy sector and to analyse the EU and Russia mutual energy cooperation. The thesis is divided into three parts. The first part characterises the EU energy policy – especially its development in 21th century. The second chapter deals with the energy policy of the Russian Federation and Russia's current economic situation, focusing on energy and raw material supplies (oil, gas and coal). The last chapter is dedicated to the EU energy relations with Russia. On contractual basis, it provides information of their cooperation, trade exchange between them, the issues of supply and transportation routes of energy. Finally, the chapter shows those states that are dependent on energy supplies from Russia (oil, natural gas) for more than fifty percent, and discusses their overall energy situation.
