In the first part deal with the geologic and geomorphologic evolution of the whole whose relief is the result of tertiary volcanic activity and the effect of exogenous factors, especially the river Elbe. Along the fault trough called Eger Graben there is output of magma. Mountains are built up from subsurface and surface bodies tertiary volcanic rocks which strike through chalk ground sediments.
