Abstract

This diploma thesis deals with the measurement of the spectral characteristics of fiber splitters. It describes the history of the fibre optics, basic characteristics of optical devices and important general terms of the optical communication. It is aimed at features of the optical fibre couplers and particular types. Describe characteristics of couplers such as losses (insertion loss, directivity, uniformity, etc.). Consequently is attention devoted to working principles of the WDM couplers. Describe introduction to the WDM technology and types of the WDM. The example of working principles, fabrication of fused fiber directional coupler and WDM multiplexers and demultiplexers. The important part of the thesis is realization of the measuring set for a measure of spectral characteristics of fiber splitters, which is divided into two parts. The goal of the thesis is spectral characteristics for four different couplers measured for wideband of wavelengths.
