Abstract

The capacity of disks still rises with technological progress. So that is why the programs go out very quickly and they are unsatisfactory to the current parameters and it is necessary to remake them or extend them. The goal of this Bachelor thesis is to rewrite an original version of PTDisk to the new version capable to work with present hardware. This text deals with disk partition. At first, we could talk about an original version of PTDisk. Then I will try to explain some of the basic conceptions like disk geometry, MBR, CHS and LBA. Another chapter will be related to disks, we will talk about disk partitioning and reasons why we do disk partitioning. Because of the new version of PTDisk will be primary determined for Linux, we will see how Linux accesses to disks and how we work with them in Linux from the sight of programmer. At last, we will talk about the new version of PTDisk, about its advantages and its next possible progress in the future.
