Abstract
Abstract
The diploma project focuses on the architectural design of a seven-storey multifunctional complex located in the redevelopment area of Trnitá in Brno. The proposal responds to the site's strategic position near the main railway station and addresses the sensitive integration of new development into the urban fabric, with an emphasis on spatial continuity and urban coherence.
The architectural concept is based on the principles of compact urban block development, with a strong focus on an active ground floor, legible public entrances, and the creation of a semi-public inner courtyard offering a quiet communal space. The building maintains a consistent height of seven above-ground storeys, supporting a coherent cityscape and enabling efficient spatial utilization. The internal layout reflects functional zoning, with retail units on the ground floor and office and residential spaces on the upper levels.
An integral part of the project is also the architectural study of the revitalization of the historic Vienna viaduct that runs through the site. The viaduct is preserved as a significant technical and historical element, with its arches repurposed for small commercial units, studios, and cafés. This approach naturally integrates the heritage structure into contemporary urban life and activates the public realm along the railway corridor.
As a whole, the project combines respect for historical context with the demands of contemporary urban architecture, placing emphasis on sustainability, walkability, and the quality of public space.
