Abstract
The thesis focuses on the development of quality improvement methodology and its practical application. The theoretical part summarizes the latest knowledge on existing practices, methods and tools of quality improvement. The identification of appropriate methods was made and their modifications and combinations of activities to support and improve and their systematic classification as well. The attention was addressed to visual and project management, the importance of teamwork and identified benefits and barriers to effective application of methods and tools of quality improvement in practice. A substantial support of top management and the importance of communication within the organization was specified.
The model improved access to quality improvement which is based on the principle of continuous improvement methodology (Deming PDCA cycle). Attention was focused on the efficient implementation of individual steps of the proposed five phases. The steps of "Quality Journal" method, and some approaches to solve problems by using the Global 8D process form the basis of the proposed model, which is completed by methods and tools and their possible combinations, which can be used in intermediate steps of the proposed model.
The last part of this thesis is devoted to the validation of the model in terms of producing interior components for the automotive industry. First problem was identified with a high number of nonconforming units in the production of rear door panels. Furthermore, an analysis of the root causes was carried out by using the Ishikawa’s diagram and to compare 5WHY method was introduced. It was followed by the proposal and implementation of action phase and the effectiveness verification of the action which was implemented.
Practical validation of the model showed the suitability of the proposed refinement of the model at the identification of potential causes and effective verification of implemented action phase.
The model validation provides possible guidance on how to solve the defined problem and what methods or tools should be used. The proposed model can be applied not only in automotive industry but also in other business sectors.
