Abstract

The aim of this thesis is to assess the causes of the operational failure of the sealing plate of the hot air slide valve and to propose measures to eliminate this failure in the future on the basis of metallographic analysis. The results of the investigation recommend focusing on higher quality machining of the flanges and on treating the corrosive environment by using treated water to cool the fitting, or using an anti-corrosive surface treatment on the inside of the seal plate. Construction treatment of welded joints to improve weld root penetration of butt welds and subsequent heat treatment, including welding, is appropriate.
