Abstract

The presented thesis deals with analyzing the offenses which were recorded by the officers of municipal police in Ostrava in 2010 and 2011. In the introduction, there are described the fundamental concepts and indicators of crime, existing criminogenic factors as well as analyzed causes of committing crime in Ostrava. The work further describes the methods the most commonly used in the field of crime. It also contains the samples of the map applications and presentations of national and international projects. There is also a detailed description of scope in authority and activities of municipal police in Ostrava. The thesis analyzes the offenses from four aspects in the practical part of work: the place and the time of offense commission, the type of offenses and offenders. The realization of spatial analyses is preceded by a time-consuming process of geocoding which uses the geographical coordinates and the addresses of existing objects (schools, department stores, bars, bus stops, etc.). Detailed spatial analyses of selected kinds of offenses use the methods of standard deviational ellipses, kernel density estimation and fuzzy mode, implemented in special statistical program CrimeStat. The results obtained in thesis as well as the possible further extension are presented in the conclusion.
