Abstract
The aim of this Master Thesis is to define the conception of competitiveness, to identify the approaches to measuring competitiveness of national economies and evaluate the status of Ireland in the world and in Europe on the basis of selected indexes; than find out the factors which have caused the positive development of the Irish economy and evaluate the negative impacts of the global economic and financial crisis on this country.
The Master Thesis is divided into three chapters. In the first chapter is clarified concept of competitiveness, the factors that can influence it and finally are described some methods for its measurement. The second chapter describes the historical background and factors of the Irish boom. It examines its reflection in the economy and assess the Irish competitiveness in recent years of prosperity and at the beginning of an economic collapse. The final section is devoted to factors that were standing behind the creation of the Irish crisis. Here is too an evaluation of the economic and social fields in the period from 2008 onwards. Finally are introduced the measures, which were implemented by Ireland to come out of unfavourable situations.
