Abstract
Metallurgical enterprises find themselves in a difficult situation where technological competitiveness, i.e. competitiveness based on quality rather than price, is a condition for their continued existence. We are in the midst of a major digital transformation of production, with Industry 4.0 becoming the new norm for manufacturing. At this point, innovation enters the whole process, at whatever level, whether it be process, product or their business model. To ensure the future of manufacturing processes, elements of innovation activity must be seen as a catalyst for growth
The use of technologies associated with Industry 4.0 is creating new path ways that contribute to the creation of added value, particularly in production processes and the implementation of new business models. The steel and foundry industry are energy intensive, highly non-environmental, and create jobs with a lower levels of professional qualifications and education. Owners and managers of metallurgical companies recognise the importance of innovation to ensure their viability, as its implementation is a prerequisite for achieving competitiveness in a dynamically changing global environment.
