Abstract

This bachelor thesis „Minimum Wage in the Czech Republic and the Impact on the Low-Income Groups of People“ studies the role of minimum wage on the labour market from economic and social point of view. The first part of the thesis gives an overview of the existing theoretical and empirical contributions on the economic effects of minimum wage. The second part of the thesis provides a descriptive analysis of the development of the minimum wage in the Czech Republic, and its comparison with minimum wages in other countries. The third part focuses on verifying its motivating function in the context of work incentives and existing social welfare schemes. It also provides a simple correlation analysis and discussion of the effects of minimum wage on wage inequality and employment rate in the Czech Republic.
