Abstract

In the current digital environment, an online presence is considered a key factor for the success and growth of small and medium-sized enterprises. In the presented bachelor's thesis, the issue of digitizing the order management process in a small car service is addressed. In this enterprise, manual record-keeping using a paper-based appointment diary and telephone communication has been relied upon exclusively. Due to this outdated approach, a high risk of human errors, constant interruptions to mechanics’ work, and the inability to process reservations outside established working hours were caused. The main goal of the thesis is the design and implementation of a modern, responsive, and user-friendly information system in the form of a web application, that provides a reliable solution for booking service appointments and a representative online presentation of the business are ensured. Within the methodology, a detailed analysis of the current and future state was first performed, based on which the functional and non-functional requirements for the proposed system were strictly defined. The architecture of the solution was subsequently modeled using UML diagrams and a database ER diagram, and it was visualized through wireframe. For the actual development, a combination of web technologies HTML, CSS, and the Bootstrap framework was chosen for the client side, while the server logic was implemented using the PHP scripting language in the robust Laravel framework connected to a MySQL relational database. The result of the work is a fully functional and tested web application, which is logically divided into a public and a private section. In the public part, an overview of services and an interactive booking form are provided to customers, by means of which available dates are dynamically calculated based on the selected tasks and the current workload of the service. In the administration section, tools for efficient reservation management, daily schedule organization, and a content management system for managing texts, pricing, and the image gallery are provided to the staff. By implementing this information system, a secure centralized data repository is provided to the car service, automation of email communication with customers is achieved, and the acceptance of reservations in a 24/7 operation is enabled. The main contribution of the presented solution is the demonstrable elimination of human errors, a significant increase in employee efficiency, and the acquisition of a strategic competitive advantage in the market.
