Abstract

The first assignment was focused only on biometric passports and the construction of an RFID antenna for reading biometric passports. These are antennas in the high frequency band at a frequency of 13.56 MHz. During my studies, I found out that the issue is so broad and varied that it is not possible to separate only this part and focus only on it. These antennas are not manufactured by everyone, as they come with specialized software that must handle encryption, digital signature verification, etc. Combating passport counterfeiting requires that only certified and proven companies have access to these technologies. I could not provide a practical verification of the function of the antenna on a real device. That is why I had to test and tune the antenna on a commercially produced reader, which, despite all my efforts, I could not read either passport or ID card. I chose a relatively unusual antenna design - differential. It cannot be measured with a conventional spectrum analyzer because it has not two inputs and only half of the antenna had to be measured. I performed the calculations necessary for the design manually, then using the simulation program CST MICROWAVE STUDIO and finally fine-tuned the results in the Smith program.
