Abstract
The aim of the EU Cohesion Policy is reducing or offsetting disparities between the levels of development of individual regions, and dealing with backwardness of the most disadvantaged regions, islands and rural zones.
This diploma thesis deals with the issue of regional disparities in the Central European countries on the level of NUTS 2 regions. The aim of the thesis is to compare and evaluate regional disparities in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Austria during the 2001-2013 period, using selected mathematical and statistical methods. In total, 16 selected economic, social and regional indicators of regional disparities have been used to compare and evaluate regional disparities. Quantitative evaluation of regional disparities is carried out with help of descriptive statistical characteristics, the semaphore method ant the TOPSIS method.
Regional disparities in the NUTS 2 regions of the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Austria have been progressively reduced. Regional differences are more provable between the regions of capitals and other regions within individual states, and between Austrian regions on one side and Czech and Slovak regions on the other side.
