Abstract

The main topics of this bachelor’s thesis are forest railways and their potential for tourism. The thesis is focused on the description of chosen forest railways and locations where these chosen forest railways are situated together with museums which administrate them. There is also the description of expositions built in museum areas. The next part of the thesis is about the history of building and operation of forest railways, the reasons why and how they were built and the reasons of their decline. The bachelor’s thesis also shows the condition and usage of current forest railways. The next topics are technical aspects of the track structure and rolling stock together with concrete vehicles which used to travel and still are travelling on railways. The last part of the thesis describes forest railways as touristic destinations, current projects and attractions in their surroundings.
