Diplomová práce se zabývá problematikou konkurenceschopnosti a dopady ekonomické recese na výkonnost států PIIGS v této oblasti. Cílem je za pomoci dat získaných ze zdrojů příslušných mezinárodních organizací porovnat změny úrovně konkurenceschopnosti zemí Portugalska, Irska, Itálie, Řecka a Španělska na počátku ekonomické recese a během dluhové krize.

Práce vymezuje základní teoretické aspekty konkurenceschopnosti a přibližuje jednotlivé metody měření, ať už dle makroekonomických ukazatelů, či ukazatelů multikriteriálních, které byly vytvořeny předními mezinárodními organizacemi, jež se konkurenceschopností zabývají.

Součástí práce je bližší charakteristika zemí PIIGS, jejich aktuálních problémů a vývoj jejich umístění ve dvou světově uznávaných žebříčcích konkurenceschopnosti. Přínosem je pak analýza dopadu hospodářské recese a dluhové krize na konkurenceschopnost těchto zemí, její predikce a doporučený postup do budoucna.

Bc. Gabriela Schindlerová Competitiveness of PIIGS Countries in the Context of the Economic Crisis

This thesis deals with the issue of competitiveness and the impact of the economic recession on the performance of PIIGS countries. The aim is to compare changes in the level of competitiveness of Portugal, Ireland, Italy, Greece and Spain according to sources from relevant international organizations at the beginning of the economic recession and during the debt crisis.

The thesis defines the basic theoretical aspects of competitiveness and methods of measurement by macroeconomic indicators and multi-criteria indicators that have been created by leading international organizations that deal with competitiveness.

There are also the closer characteristics of the PIIGS countries, their current problems and development of their location in two wide respected competitiveness rankings. The benefit is the analysis of the impact of the economic recession and debt crisis on the competitiveness of these countries, the prediction and the recommendations for the future.
