Abstract
The aim of this bachelor work was the determination of wastewater concentration influence coming from steel industry to semichronic test – the root growth of white mustard (Sinapis alba L.). Tested wastewater coming from steelworks of company Vítkovice Steel, a.s., contained trace amounts of alkaline metals and alkaline earth metals as sodium, potassium, calcium and magnesium. Further, the content hazardous metals as iron, copper, zinc, cadmium and mercury and content of the trace impurities of anions as nitrates, sulfates were determined by this study. The total salinity and pH values were determined etc. IC50 values (50% growth inhibition of white mustard roots) for metals and the total salinity of the wastewater, were determined. Also the second wastewater was tested, and by this work was determined that its toxicity is lower than the toxicity of the first wastewater. The mustard test is one of four common conventional tests, which are used by OECD norms for testing of toxicity of waste material to the environment.
