The main aim of this thesis consists of determining the extinguishing time of certain types of flammable liquids, especially due to changes in the water mist parameters. Firstly, the theoretical basis of burning and fire is summarised in the introduction of this thesis, followed by a succinct description of certain flammable liquids, water mist characteristics and its mechanisms of extinction. Secondly, the practical part of the thesis focuses on the principle of water mist creation, in conjunction with an experimental measurement of extinguishing time of several flammable liquids, reaching a conclusion after an evaluation of the measured data.
