Abstract
This study centers on issues of an organic waste segregation which is relevant
to current efforts to reduce negative impacts of biological waste storage and disposal sites
on the environment. The first part of this paper talks about the Czech legislation for a solid waste management and the country’s new responsibilities in the light of the European Union’s membership. The second part discusses different ways of the organic waste management and a subsequent possible utilization of recovered resources. The last section describes a realization of the communal organic (wet) waste collection project in the city
of Kadan and immediate economic benefits of the waste segregation on overall costs
of municipal garbage disposal.
