Abstract
The district heating sector, as a significant part of the energy industry in the Czech Republic, is a highly specific area lacking significant legislative support, while being an indispensable component of the state's energy strategy. The European energy market is undergoing dramatic changes due to the currently limited availability of resources influenced by geopolitical shifts, as well as in the context of challenges for reducing carbon footprint.
District heating is facing transformational challenges in terms of the necessity to decarbonize energy sources by changing the fuel base and utilizing alternative sources, as well as through controlled decentralization of resources. However, it is crucial for these changes to be systemic and respect the principles of sustainable development.
The presented thesis deals with the riskiest area for the district heating sector, which is the tendency of individual consumers in the Czech Republic to disconnect from highly efficient centralized heat supply systems in a non-systemic manner. The thesis focuses on assessing the viability of centralized heat supply compared to alternative local sources through the creation of a model that integrates technical, economic, and climate parameters for modelling aspects influencing the economical evaluation of the viability of projects for disconnecting from centralized heat supply.
