Abstract

Czech Presidency of the European Union Hana Koliášová The aim of this Diploma Thesis is to review the Czech presidency, its running, the differences from the previous presidencies, what its benefits were for EU and what it gave Czech Republic. The Diploma Thesis is created by three parts, whereas the first describes the general characteristics of presidency, what is its purpose, how was this institute developed by the Union treaties and how it works now. In the next chapter the Czech preparations for presidency are described, what was the institutional cover and how the presidency was presented to the public, also the priorities or interests of presidency are mentioned and what happened during the half year. The closing part is occupied first with the description of the presidency of Slovenia and France and later it specifies the outcomes that were achieved. It describes the successes but also the weak sides of presidency, attention is paid to evaluation of the stated goals.
