Abstract
The thesis deals with the development of a warning light that defines a safe lateral clearance between a motor vehicle and a cyclist. The theoretical part discusses the relevant legal framework, accident statistics resulting from the interaction between motorists and cyclists supplemented by sociological research of the mutual perception of both subjects on roads. Furthermore, the thesis presents a medical perspective with a case study concerning the lack of lateral clearance with the occurrence of an accident. The thesis also describes the evolution of the bicycle and current visibility aids along with a description of the laser as another possible light source for bicycle lighting. The thesis also analyses the overtaking manoeuvre with possible overtaking strategies. The practical part includes the development and implementation of the warning light concept using 3D printing and its following testing in a real environment.
