Abstract

Small and Medium – Sized Enterprises form the backbone of the economies of developed countries. The aim of the thesis is to analyze the development of small and medium – sized enterprises in the European Union in the period 2005 – 2012 and comparation with a development of small and medium – sized enterprises in the Czech Republic. The thesis is structured into five chapters. The first chapter is an introduction and the fifth chapter is a conclusion. The second chapter discusses the theoretical background of small and medium – sized enterprises. The third chapter is devoted to the promotion of entrepreneurship in the European Union and in the Czech Republic. The fourth chapter is focused on analysis of the development of small and medium – sized enterprises during the monitored period 2005 – 2012.
