Abstract

This thesis deals with a great mining disaster that happened in the North Bohemian brown coal basin in the thirties of the twentieth century. It is a former Nelson coal mine located near the town Osek. It describes the history of district, the life of miners, mining methods and safety conditions at mines. In the next chapter Nelson describes the mine from the geological point of view. It is shows the day of disaster, investigation of the accident and its possible causes. In another part some of the remains after the disaster have been described, a new tourist circuit have been created and the history of Nelson coal mine have been recorded. In conclusion, it highlights how strenuous and dangerous is the work of miners.
