Abstract

The objective of the present diploma thesis is to scrutinize the multifarious aspects of swimming-pool water chlorination and by-product removal procedures based on activated charcoal adsorption, the latter being an alternative with presumably positive effects in terms of public health protection against potentially carcinogenic chlorination by-products. An analysis of available information resources is provided, followed by description of specific technological solutions, and operating data analysis inferred from three particular indoor swimming pool facilities. Finally, the efficacy and effectiveness of chlorination by-product removal based on activated charcoal utilization are assessed.
