Abstract

The topic of this bachelor thesis is a description and assessment of integration processes on the African continent. The purpose of the thesis is to explore the development and contemporary situation in the region with regard to African specifics that are complicating the integration processes, to examine the situation in particular countries, where some problems occurred and assess the future of African integration. The thesis consists of five chapters. The First chapter contains introduction, the second chapter is concerned with conditions that determine integration in Africa, the foundation of African Union, its specifics and institutions. The third chapter includes specific issues of chosen countries. The fourth chapter deals with the EU influence on African integration processes and with African and European Unions’ collaboration. The fifth chapter is conclusion. We can summarize that African Union is currently largest African integration project that is inspired by European Union model with respect to current African needs. The implementation of African Union project is very difficult and is frequently drawn back by antiintegration factors and also because of tribal values that are being applied rather than trough democratic approach.
