Abstract

This thesis deals with the effects of bactericidal and bacteriostatic substances on bacterial cell and with the methods of antimicrobial susceptibility testing of some new perspective bacterial strains. Physical effects of environment on bacteria are briefly described in the first part of the thesis together with the characteristics of virulence and pathogenicity of bacterial strains. In the next part more detailed characteristics of bactericidal and bacteriostatic substances are described, especially of antibiotics. The mechanisms of antibiotics effect on bacterial cell are described and antibiotics are classified according to their chemical structure. Next part deals with the antimicrobial resistance, with the mechanisms of emergence and spread of resistence together with methods of antimicrobial susceptibility testing. Experimental part deals with the verification of susceptibility of new isolates of bacteria of the genus Pseudomonas from the habitats contaminated with toxic metals and organic substances to basic antibiotics.
