Abstract
In the theoretical part of this work the problem about the aplication of selective laser melting for titanium alloy Ti-6AI-4V was analyzed. The way particular parameters influence the proccess and the quality of the final product was discussed. The quality of the final product in this work was measured by the amount of residual porosity, mechanical properties and resulting microstructure. The experimental part focused on the tensile tests of alloy made in two series (conventionally forged and produced by selective laser melting). Samples after tensile tests were subjected to fractography, amount of porosity and microstructure analysis and these results were compared afterwards. After selective laser melting the samples had better mechanical properties than conventionally made alloy. Character of fracture surfaced after selective laser melting was more brittle with local toughness behavior. The microstructure of the components after selective laser melting was almost α´ martensitic, and that is the reason for higher values of mechanical properties compared to the conventionally prepared alloy, whose microstructure is bimodal α+β.
