Abstract
This diploma thesis focuses on the design of a squirrel-cage asynchronous traction motor and it is divided into three parts. The first part deals with materials used for the construction of electric machines such as the winding, a magnetic circuit, an insulation, etc. Then, it is concerned with traction motors, mainly the asynchronous motor. The theoretical part finishes with the arrangement of the drive and restrictions for the design of the motor. The second part includes an analytical design of the motor in which the main dimensions of the motor, grooves, the resistance and the reactance, losses etc. are determined. The last part is the simulation of the designed motor in Ansys RMxprt and Maxwell 2D softwares which will verify the accuracy of the analytical calculation and the comparison of simulated values for a non-magnetic and magnetic wedge.
