Abstract

Limiting the advance of the mining process at the Československé armády coal mine, which is operated by the Severní energetická a.s. company, by a line so-called territorial environmental limits set by Czech Government Resolution of 1991, will come to depletion of recoverable coal reserves around 2022. Brown coal reserves in the amount of around 750 million tonnes remain blocked behind the line. At the same time remaining in the side and the closing slopes of the mine are deposits of brown coal, which are easily accessible from the level of the coal seam. The aim of the Severní energetická a.s. organization is to access these deposits by underground mining. The room and pillar cave-in free mining method, which in the past was used for coal mining in the protected pillars under urban areas, is suitable for this aim.
