Abstract
A large number of old mine workings, is concentrated in areas of the former mines nowadays. They pose some problems in terms of compliance with laws but also safety. On the other hand, these works may be utilized so that it does not burden the environment and brought a certain economic and social effect.
For example, only in the Ostrava-Karvina coalfield is currently 359 old mine workings. Most of the old mine workings is registered and secured to protect against leakage of methane. On some secured workings is carried out monitoring and maintenance.
We understand the old mine works under the Mining Act underground mine works, which is coffin, and the original operator or legal successor does not exist or is not known. Or even under applicable regulation since 2002, is an old mine works also abandoned quarry after mining of reserved minerals, whose original operator or its legal successor does not exist or is not known.
In comparison with other countries is the use of old mines in the Czech Republic fully developed.
Dissertation shows the number of old mines in the Czech Republic and the possible use of they and then focused on the use of old mines in the Ostrava region.
