Abstract

Currently, ionizating radiation is utilised in almost all branches of industry and national economy since its discovery in 1895. Ionizating radiation used as sealed or open sources of radiation enables to perform experiments and measurements and gather data which are not possible to collect by another way. In the presented work the theoretical background of using ionizating radiation was summarised including analysing and prevention of related risks to the human health and emergency situation/accidents response. To be more comprehensive, analysis of risks originated in natural radiation (radon) and medical imagination/treatment were added. As a case study, the measurement of airflow through worked out areas in underground coal mines was described.
