Abstract

The subject of this thesis is The corrosion protection of the steel long distance water supply conduits. According to this theme, the main goal of this work is the apprising of the steel water mains corrosion general issues, the ways of their protection, both the trench and trenchless diagnosis of their coating. Particularly I deal with the theoretical methods of the corrosion protection and with practical experience as they are implemented in OVAK Inc. To be able to understand the steel mains corrosion problems it is necessary to comprehend the conditions for and the way how the corrosion process originates. Based on this knowledge it is possible then to define particular action to prevent corrosion. The coating condition detection is performed by the means of large scale of technical tools ranging from the laboratory experiments to on-field functional tests. When we have to solve the task as the building up the new or optimalization of the existing passive or active protection, it is necessary to consider actual state of the particular steel water main, local conditions and economical situation of the infrastructure owner or operator.
