Abstract

The subject of this thesis is the comparison breakthrough curves of CO2 and CH4 on two columns of various diameters. As a packed bed is used activated carbon with a high sorption capacity. The second part of this thesis is determination of gas RTD (residence time distribution) for different quality of packed beds – glass beads, polymeric grains and activated carbon cylinders. The practical part includes description of the used equipment, measuring procedure, and variables affecting the process of adsorption, such as bed porosity, bulk density and particle size distribution. The raw data are evaluated graphically in MS Excel . The thesis presents the results for the breakthrough curves including the calculations adsorbed amount per a gram of active carbon. For RTD methods are compared each time passing through the column for different packed beds.
