Abstract

This thesis deals with the problems of a model and simulation of the respiratory system. The implemented, multi-compartment mathematical model of the respiratory system is composed of a regulator, three compartments representing the places leading to the exchange of blood gases, and four blocks representing transport delays. The compartments represent the lungs, tissues, and brain. The transport delays are modeled for the transfer of quantities between these compartments: pulmonary and tissue, pulmonary and cerebral, tissue and pulmonary, and between the pulmonary compartment and the regulator. The simulation model is created by means of Matlab&Simulink. The simulation enables the execution of experiments on the model with defined quantities, which in this case represents concentrations of blood gases in individual areas of the system. The two examples are given in the work, in which the dynamic courses of select quantities are researched as responses to the defined failure changes of another given quantity.
