Vývoj a perspektiva dělnických kolonií na Ostravsku

Abstract

The Thesis presents in detail three original working class colonies in the City of Ostrava from their formation to the present day. The aim is to highlight the cultural heritage of these sites, map growing problems in the colonies, suggest appropriate solutions that would lead to their renovation, specify new technology capabilities to be used to revitalize particular buildings as well as to assess economic efficiency of any new capital construction projects. The theoretical section describes terms related to substance of working class colonies and defines pertinent construction practice terms as well as it specifies methods of building-and-technical survey, ways of evaluating the effectiveness of some construction project and 3D rendering process for the buildings. The following section describes the approach to similar workers’ colonies in Europe and outlines international experience in dealing with the situation in the above colonies. The practical section of the thesis is divided into six separate blocks, which are mutually interconnected and form an unified whole. There has been a comprehensive assessment of some selected original buildings (containing appropriate recommendations) carried out. In addition, there have been the most frequent and weightiest defects and failures summarized and technology ways to revitalize affected localities suggested. In conclusion there have been the thesis achievements presented and recommendations on how to responsibly approach the given localities specified. The thesis outcomes are an elaboration of the set of recommendations to the inhabitants of working class colonies, 3D rendering of the original workers’ houses and creation of website to publicize the points at issue in the media. In addressing the task I have been cooperating with the staff of Ostrava City Archive (Archiv města Ostravy) and the mayors of relevant localities. Some part of my unfinished thesis has been already used by the Building Control Department of District Authority of Nova Ves – Ostrava (Úmob Nová Ves – Ostrava).
