Abstract
The aim of the thesis is to characterize the key differences in the development of Slovakia's foreign trade in the period before and after accession to the EU based on the analysis of the territorial and commodity structure of Slovakian foreign trade. On the basis of mentioned objective was formulated the following hypothesis: The adoption of the euro in Slovak Republic led to a deterioration of the general state of foreign trade. The thesis is divided into three main chapters. The first chapter focuses on the theoretical definition of foreign trade and foreign trade policy. The second chapter is devoted to foreign trade in Slovakia prior to accession to the EU. Introduction of the third chapter deals with the development of Slovakian foreign trade from joining the EU till present. Finally, the third chapter provides an analysis of data and information about Slovak foreign trade before and after joining the EU, but also the comparison of positive and negative aspects of foreign trade arising from Slovakia's membership in the EU and the subsequent adoption of the euro.
