Abstract

The aim of this thesis is to find out if human capital may influence wage rates in countries of the European Union. To fulfil this task there are used several practical and theoretical findings of authors who are on a long term basis interested in human capital issues or in its influence on wage rates. The aim of the thesis is examined in its own empirical analysis which consists of descriptive and correlative analysis. The thesis is divided into three main parts. The first part describes the theory of human capital and wages. The second part summarizes the existing empirical research of human capital and wage rates in the part of research of contemporary empirical studies. In the third part there can be found the empirical analysis of my own which consists of descriptive methods and results of correlative analysis. According to results human capital has an influence on wage rates in countries of the European Union. From all the chosen indicators the enrolment to secondary school ratio and an average number of school education years belong to the most influential.
