Abstract

The subject of the bachelor thesis is the regional disparities in the Baltic countries. The main objective of the thesis is to describe the issue of the regional disparities and EU regional policy and primarily to analyze, evaluate and compare the regional disparities in the Baltic countries (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania) according to selected indicators in the reference period 2000-2010. On the basis of the six selected socio-economic and environmental indicators there are significant disparities between the Baltic countries. According to GDP per capita in PPS, there are visible disparities not only in the Baltic countries, but also at the territorial level NUTS 3 regions. In the new programming period 2014 – 2020 the Baltic countries belong to the less developed regions according to GDP per capita that is than 75 % EU average and they will be eligible to draw the EU funds for investment in innovation, energy efficiency, social cohesion and competitiveness.
