Abstract

The object of this bachelor’s work is to introduce a selection of modern technologies that are used to enhance cold rolled strip quality. CASTSTRIP, CSP, ISP and DSC, the entry material production systems for strips are presented here. An innovative contact method for strip shape measurement, contactless flatness measurement, prediction of shape defects of cold rolled strip using artificial neural networks, high speed detection of edge cracks and holes and a system of detection of inclusions using ultrasonic waves belong among the mentioned technologies for improving properties of cold rolled strips. As to modern technologies for strip cleaning, there is a method of vacuum arc cleaning of oxide layers and a strip cleaning technology using ultrasonic waves and high-pressure described. The work deals also with environmentally friendly solutions and gives a survey of significant cold-rolling mills worldwide.
